Creativity as the language of the Soul…
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much our surroundings shape us and how we, in turn, shape the world with what we create.
Creative directors understand this well: when you're surrounded by beauty, you're naturally inspired to add more of it into the world.
It’s not just about aesthetics. It’s about resonance. When you start to live in closer proximity to the things that light you up — art, nature, music, movement, meaningful conversation — you start to feel more like yourself. Your vision of a life that excites you isn’t just a distant dream. It can be your starting point.
The truth is, the path doesn’t always appear right away. But the moment you step toward it, something shifts. Beauty begins to unfold around you as well as within you. You’re shaping the way just as much as it’s shaping you. It’s a synergy.
I’ve come to believe that creativity is intimacy with the world around you. It’s a deep noticing. A slowing down. A willingness to engage, to admire the colors, to smell the flowers, to see harmony in places you once passed by.
And in that space of appreciation, new ideas are born. New ways of living. New gardens, waiting to be tended.
A wave doesn’t realize it is the ocean just as we often don’t realize we’re already part of something vast, powerful, and in motion. We get caged by our own thoughts, forgetting that we can take action toward a more aligned, more beautiful reality. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to begin.
As Carl Jung said, “If the path before you is clear, you’re probably on someone else’s.” Your path is meant to be discovered, not followed. The uncertainty isn't a problem.
On the contrary, it is a sign that you’re creating something original, something yours.
In many ways, this ties into the concept of ikigai, the Japanese idea of living with purpose. Ikigai is the sweet spot where what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for all meet. It’s not a destination. It’s the art of living in harmony with your true self, with what brings joy and meaning. The beautiful part is that the path toward your ikigai isn’t always clear, and that’s okay. It’s a journey, an unfolding.
Here’s a little passage I wrote lately that ties into all this:
"Perhaps humans travel to new lands in an attempt to walk the alleys of their minds they’ve never walked before. Maybe mindlessly wandering without a compass is the only escape from the dictatorship of those around us who act as if they have the answers. We expect the answers to be loud and grand, but how purposeful is it to find answers to questions not even created by you?
While the world around us is filled with noise, truth often resides in silence, hidden in the coincidences that hint divine orchestration. May we learn to only interrupt that silence by the sound of our footsteps following our heart’s alley.”
So if you’re longing to feel more alive, more connected, more creative, start where you are. Find one beautiful thing today and really see it. Let it move you. Let it become part of the life you’re building.
Pause + Reflect:
What’s one small, beautiful thing you’ve been overlooking?
How might you engage with it today — not just as an observer, but as a co-creator?
And how can you begin to move toward your ikigai — that sweet intersection of joy, purpose, and action?
